Project 365 (Week 4)

I just have to say….when I started the Project 365 daily picture thing last January, I really didn’t think I’d be able to pull it off and keep up with it. But, I did (thanks in big part to my Instagram addiction) and I’m so glad I did. I just ordered the book of all the P365 posts, like I had always planned to, and I loved looking back at all of those pictures. I only wish I had done it years ago!

On Sunday, I had the pleasure of getting out of the house (!!!!!) and meeting a blogger friend who will be one of my roommates at Blissdom this year. If you haven’t “met” Erin, you should get acquainted. She’s one of the organizers of the Kansas City Listen To Your Mother show, and a partner in the Gay Dad Project. Isn’t she pretty?

Martin Luther King Jr. day, which means no school for the big two, and a trip to the dentist for the big three. I’m so thankful that they still get excited to go, and that they don’t have any problems with their teeth (yet). They all did great and got the thumbs up..

Before we left, though, the big three were staying the night at grandma’s house, hubs went to work, and Erv and I were alone for the morning. He got my iPod from me, started calling it a phone, and held it up to take a self-portrait while saying “cheese”. I DIED FROM THE CUTE. He seriously cracks me up….we have so much fun.

This picture makes me laugh. Her crown was in the car, and she discovered that it would hold back her growing-out bangs on the way into town. And then she fell asleep, and then wore it to lunch…

Back to school! While Erv was napping, Essie and I were hanging out. I just love her little face and wanted to take a picture of her, but I had to bribe her to do it. Ah, well. It was worth it.

Then the big two got home from school and Henry and I set to work on his 100th Day of School Poster. I suggested buttons, and he came up with the idea to do it like we did out Fall Decor project. I was so proud.

I have my first virtual 5K this weekend, and am actually ahead of my game with the 500 miles in 2013 goal. I have run 3 miles without stopping to walk, most days for the last two weeks. I’m still slow, and I know I could go faster if I did stop to talk walking breaks, but I really want to be able to run a 5K (on and off the treadmill) without stopping. So I’ll keep it slow and  steady for a while.

Hubs was out of town on Thursday, and the kids were completely out of control. Okay, not completely, but you know when they just won’t stop talking/laughing/jabbering on and on and on while they’re supposed to be eating supper? That.

Then Ivy started doing this (and I really don’t know where she got it, but it cracks me up). Also, I haven’t found a good app yet for collages…or rather, I might have but I don’t really know how to use it yet. Whatever.

Two things here. The weather was chilly still, but not 10 degrees like it has been, so the kids played outside for a long time after school.

And then they came inside and the girls played together. I love this candid picture of them…it was a moment of loving each other between moments of fighting. Except for the bickering (or even with it), they’re pretty entertaining when they interact. (And of course, they had a cat following them around. You can’t do anything in this house without a cat following you.)

Yesterday, I went to my mom’s gym with her to run the first of my 13 5Ks this year, a virtual run through Anywhere 5K, the Run Fur Fun, benefiting the Humane Society. I went in really wanting to finish in under 39 minutes. It didn’t happen….I finished in 40:03. I’m still proud of myself that I did it without stopping to walk at all, and was the first “official” 5K in which I managed to do that. Of course, it was still on a treadmill, but by my first “real” (non-virtual) 5K in April, I hope to be able to run the whole way OFF of the treadmill. Between now and then, I think I have at least three other virtual runs. Oh, and as of today, I’m up to 47.1 miles out of my 500 mile goal for the year. I’m hoping to break 100 miles by the end of February!

(Oh, and apparently the sweat and red face accentuates my GINORMOUS forehead)

I know exactly what you mean by out of control kids when daddy isn't there… mine do the same thing! I'm impressed with how well you are doing with the running. I don't think I'll ever be a runner… I am more of a power walker. But I'm ok with that! Also, try PhotoGrid for the collages, it works pretty well and it has an option to add text, so you can watermark your images right away!!! :)

Photo Grid is what I used! I just don't know how to use it…it took me a good five minutes to do what I did, which wasn't that great. But, it put two pictures together. I used to be a power walker and really didn't think I could run. But, I've proven myself wrong! Thanks, Susi!

  3. Toni says:

Awesome job on the run!!!!! I hope to one day, soon, run that 5K without walking…and I understand slow. We'll just keep at and build up our speed!

  4. monica young says:

Great achievement on the run. Congrats, Beautiful family!

  5. Co-Pilot Mom says:

Way to go on the run! It's always different when my husband is away, too. It's like we lose our rhythm and everything gets a bit wonky.

    • gretafunk says:

Yes, definitely. The kids have more fun, I think, because apparently, I don't have the authority that my husband does. Oh well. And thanks!

  6. Alison says:

    Yay on the run!!
Also, love the crown. Reminds me, I need one. :)

  7. I love that you followed through in making the book. I've always said I wanted to do that…and five years of blogging later, I've still got nuthin. I am excited to do a 365 photo project this year so maybe the commitment to that will help me actually make a book at the end :) Love the last one of you running and meeting those goals! awesome.

    • gretafunk says:

I've had a few blog books made already, but I'm way behind because they're pretty pricey (or at least, where I've found to get them). I love having them, though!

  8. Jen Crum says:

Hoorah for Run For Fun. My husband and I are doing our first 5k in a couple of weeks – I'm secretly terrified!

  9. galitbreen says:

Hooray for all of this goodness amongst the chaos you have going on girl! HOORAY!

    {And yay for meeting Erin! Love that pic of you two!}

  10. ginabad says:

Awesome photos! Good luck on the project and the run! Pretty impressive …I'm struggling just to get moving.

    • gretafunk says:

It's become a habit now. So much so that I want to do it just about every day! The hardest part of developing a routine is just getting started!!

  11. Elaine says:

Your sleeping Princess is SO cute! And love seeing your and Erin together. She's been my roomie twice! :D

And CONGRATS on the 5K!! Go you with the running, you know I love it!

  12. Love your photos! Congratulations on your 5k and running 3 miles without stopping! You are doing an amazing job!

  13. lydsrich says:

This is awesome. 3 miles without stopping? I've only done that once – so great job! (And we have matching iPods. It's like we're twins or something.) :)

    • gretafunk says:

It pays to be stubborn, because now I pretty much won't let myself stop at any less than three miles! And gosh, don't you love the hot pink iPod? I'm sure there are far better, newer ones with awesome features, but I sure do love mine. HA!

  14. angela says:

You look beautiful after running. How do you do THAT?

  15. [...] mentioned Erin last week. We’ve only met the one time, for an hour, but we’d gotten close online for [...]

  16. Kristin says:

Hooray for not stopping during your 5k! That is a great accomplishment! :)
