The excitement on Easter morning rivaled that of Christmas. It was palpable.

Something about that basket full of chocolates, candies, and (at every Easter I can remember) a hollow bunny that was begging to be nibbled at. Maybe it was because you can’t save some of the long-eared goodness for later….it just wasn’t practical to wrap him back up. You had to eat it All. In. One. Sitting.

Or maybe it was the sheer volume of sugared heaven. It wasn’t that much (really) but with the grass that got everywhere, there just seemed to be So. Much. Candy.

When else did our parents give us so much of the delightful stuff all at once? Never, that’s when.

And then we got to go hunt for more?!

How about the lunch spread? Glazed ham, potatoes, rolls, maybe even a turkey.

What about the egg dyeing? It was an (almost) unspoken challenge to see how many brightly colored, wildly designed eggs we could make for my dad to take to work the following week in his lunches. To imagine the looks on his coworkers faces.

(I think he secretly liked it.)

It could have been the dresses, though, and the lacy, ribboned hats. Seas of pastel at church, as far as the eye could see.

I couldn’t help but twirl, just as my daughters can’t now.

I’m trying to recreate these memories for my own kids, because they’re so very special.

Hershey’s is creating a virtual Bunny Trail, full of memories, tips and stories of Easters (past and present) at www.CelebrateWithHersheys.com. Hop on and join us!
My Easter basket should be here any day, full of these goodies:

  • Cadbury Mini Eggs Candy
  • Reese’s Mini Reester Bunnies Chocolates
  • Hershey’s Kisses Brand Milk Chocolates
  • Twizzlers Strawberry Twists Candy
  • Kit Kat Miniatures Wafer Bars

If the kids are lucky, I’ll share.

But probably not.

(I wasn’t compensated for this post, but met up with Hershey’s at Blissdom in February and created my yellow basket with pink grass full of the deliciousness listed above, which they’re sending to me completely free. Because they’re awesome.)

Update: And just like magic, the basket appeared on my doorstep. Thank you, Hershey’s!
