Celebrating a Special Dad with #KCSteaks

Read on and you’ll find a coupon code AND giveaway…

So, my husband is hard to buy for (if you continue to read this, babe, just act surprised on the 19th). If he wants something, he buys it. If you ask him for ideas, he doesn’t have any,

I’m not alone in this struggle, right?

And Father’s Day is coming up. How do we show our love and appreciation to the guy that works extremely hard for our family but also wants nothing more than to get to spend time with us? It’s tough for him and it’s difficult to do something that shows how much we recognize and thank him for that.

It’s also tough to want to take the entire family out for dinner for a special day when there are six of us (half of whom have dietary restrictions), especially on a holiday when everybody is taking their favorite dads out so traffic is bad and waits are long.

We want him to relax on Father’s Day, and that doesn’t really involve driving for an hour with hungry kids and possibly a grumpy wife trying to herd them, right? I mean, really.

So with this busy and stressful year, we’re going the better (and more meaningful) route by staying in, showering him with homemade (secret) presents and steak. I’ll even cook it rare to really show my love (because, ew). It won’t be calm (hello, four kids), but it will be less crowded and more relaxing for everyone involved.

Doesn’t that sound, like, perfect?! In fact, with help from Kansas City Steak Company’s Big Daddy Combo, we could actually celebrate all weekend or for every meal on Father’s Day…maybe eggs and strip steaks for breakfast, T-Bones and baked potatoes for lunch, and Bacon-wrapped Filet Mignon for dinner. That’s not overkill for our favorite guy, is it?

So now that I’ve shared my brilliant Father’s Day plans, you’re probably thinking your husband (or dad or grandpa) should be treated like a steak-eating king, too, right? So how about a coupon code, and a giveaway?!

To save 15% on and order from Kansas City Steak Company, including the Big Daddy Combo, use code LUVDAD (good through December 31, 2016 and on all purchases).

OR, to win your own delivery of  4, 6 oz. Super-Trimmed™ Filets*, add your comments below for up to three entries (giveaway ends Saturday, June 11 at 10pm Central):

One comment– tell me who you want to treat (on Father’s Day or any day) and why.

One comment– Tweet the following and comment that you did: I entered to win a gift set of four tender, delicious filet mignon steaks from @gfunkified. http://wp.me/p2nIwS-2ej #justadddad #kcsteaks

One comment– share this giveaway on Facebook and comment that you did.

Thank you so much to the Kansas City Steak Company for sending the Big Daddy Combo for the Big Daddy at our house. I wasn’t otherwise compensated for this post and that’s not even the point of steak on Father’s Day, is it? All opinions of delicious steak (rare or well done) are totally my own.

*Filet Mignon is the Kansas City Steak Company’s best-selling steak, pure and simple. This filet mignon is king — butter-tender, cut from the center of the finest aged tenderloin and hand selected from premium corn-fed Kansas beef.

Why I’m Thankful for Thirty-One #Giveaway

So, Thanksgiving is tomorrow, and I listed some things I’m thankful for yesterday. Today, I’m combining two more things that I’m super thankful for with a GIVEAWAY.

Thing 1: My Thirty-One business. I’ve been at it for almost four months now, and I’ve had a lot of really fun Facebook parties, earned some extra money and amazing items for myself and helped hostesses earn a whole lot of product. Most of my Christmas shopping is done thanks to my biz (both through commission to pay for them and products to choose from).

Thing 2: You guys. A gal in the Thirty-One home office invited me to review one of our products (which I basically do every day of my life) and give one of YOU the same product. Personalized for you. Because Thirty-One is an incredibly giving company.

So, I chose a product that I had my eye on, that was super popular with customers, and was new…The Fold-Over Weekender in City Charcoal Swiss Dot. I used it for the first time to pack our family for a weekend trip (another thing I’m thankful for…the ability to more easily travel with the kids, because goodness knows, it hasn’t always been easy).

foldover 1

foldover 3

This bag can be packed with a ton of stuff, or it can be left not as full and folded over at the top. I love it for when you go on a trip and want to have room to bring a bunch of souvenirs home, or come home with a bag full of dirty clothes that are wadded up and not packed nearly as nicely (or efficiently) as when you left.

foldover 5

So, now’s the really fun part. One of YOU will win a Fold-Over Weekender in the print of your choice and with the embroidery of your choice (valued at up to $90). YAY!!!

Check out this short video for its features:

Entering is easy. There are a few entries you can earn (leave a comment for each entry):

1) Check out my VIP group, where I post specials, deals, exclusive offers, giveaways, mystery hostess parties, and more: https://www.facebook.com/groups/865271086860014/ Leave a comment telling me that you’re either already in the group or have asked to join.

2) Visit my website and tell me two products that you either love and want or have and love: http://mythirtyone.com/gretafunk

3) Leave a comment telling me which print you would get if you won, and what you would have it personalized with (you can change your mind later if you do win): click here for prints.

Open to US residents. Winner will be chosen via random.org out of verified entries on Dec. 3, 2015.

I was given a Fold-Over Weekender for review purposes, but all opinions are 100% my own, of course. I was not compensated for this post.

Grab Green Laundry and Home Care #Giveaway

This post contains affiliate links but also a GIVEAWAY. Woot!

A brand I met at Shiftcon this year was Grab Green. The team I talked to was AWESOME. They were a brand that said “Hey! Do you want to try some of our favorite products that work really well but reduce those disgusting chemicals in your home?” and then “Perfect! Then you can give those same products to one of your readers, and get a discount, and share affiliate links! Because we LOVE bloggers!”

That’s paraphrasing, but you can see why I adored them immediately. They were super friendly and funny and down to earth, and also willing to give out BOXES of their products for everyone at Shiftcon to try. Because let’s be honest….some of the ecofriendly, clean, no- or reduced-chemical products out there can be expensive and not even work. But it’s not like you can just get samples of everything! So you’re stuck with, like, a really good smelling dish soap that doesn’t even get the dishes clean.

So I love nothing more than to be able to try things out before I spend my money on them (understatement of the year).

I got the box (the beautiful box…seriously, the packaging is gorgeous), and it contained Dishwasher Pods, Laundry Pods, Bleach Alternative Pods and Hand Soap.

Let me just talk about my favorites.

The Dishwasher Pods. I got a small sample of the unscented kind and a regular bag of Tangerine with Lemongrass scented. I haven’t tried the unscented yet because I’ve been using the others. Dish cleaner in general kind of freaks me out. I mean, we eat off of our dishes and then clean them with chemicals before we eat off of them again?? Does that seem kind of…..gross to anyone else? So lately I’ve been on the lookout for natural dishwasher detergent to avoid the whole eating off of chemicals thing. I had not had much luck, to be real. I mean, eating off of chemicals is bad, but so is opening the dishwasher to find that your dishes are only half clean and you have to either hand wash them or run a whole load over again. NOBODY HAS TIME FOR THAT. But. BUT!!! The Grab Green dishwasher detergent pods work really, really well. They get all of crusty stuff off of the dishes and silver ware, without leaving streaks behind, just as well as the “regular” detergents do. And they smell way better without the toxic chemicals, chlorine, dyes, or phosphates (all of the scary stuff regular detergents have).

The Hand Soap. Oh my goodness. I got the Red Pear with Magnolia scented soap. It smells fresh and clean and not too strong but strong enough (if you know what I mean). There are other scents (and fragrance free) to try, and I will be trying all of them. Believe you, me. It’s gentle, non-toxic, AND biodegradable, so you can feel better about washing it down the drain and into the water supply.

The other thing I love about all of the products is their transparency. Literally, on the back of all of the packages is a section called “True Transparency”, where they list all of the ingredients and what they do, so you know exactly what you’re putting on your dishes, or clothes, or bodies, or countertops.

So, now’s the fun part. You get to enter to win a $35 gift card to get these products (or any others) for yourself! YAY!
a Rafflecopter giveaway

The links in this post are affiliates, so if you happen to order any of the amazing products, I’d get a tiny commission. Also, like I said, Grab Green gave me a box of products to try for review purposes, but all opinions are 100% my own.

Overhauling the Lunch Box, One Juice Pouch At A Time #giveaway

I went to Shiftcon at the end of September, and was inspired (all over again) to make small changes to improve my family’s health and limit our mark on the environment.

One of the things I knew I needed(wanted) to change was our dependence on traditional juice pouches. I pack my kids’ school lunches every day (both because I have a picky eater and because I have gluten free girls that don’t have options from the school). Juice pouches and boxes are the easiest way to send them with a  drink for lunch (not to mention the easiest to pack for trips), but most of them have too much sugar or unpronounceable ingredients. If I learned anything from the conference, it’s that I should know what I’m feeding my family.

I have made the switch to reusable containers for juice or water in order to decrease some of our waste, but sometimes I’m in a hurry and sometimes they’re just not convenient (like on those family trips and long drives). I told the folks at Honest Tea all of this, and they sent me a box of their Honest Kids juice pouches to try.

What makes them awesome is that they’re only sweetened with fruit juice….they don’t add any other junk, and that fruit juice is organic. And they taste really good (I totally drank one). They’re not overly sweet, they just taste like juice. Real, delicious juice. Even my kids, who are used to the super sweet, not-real-juice-in-any-sense-of-the-word pouches, loved them.

Also? For our reusable drink containers? They have bigger bottles of the juice!

I already know that the Honest Tea peeps are pure awesome, but now you do, too, because guess what?? They’re going to send one of you THREE BOXES of Honest Kids (flavor of your choice)!

To enter, all you have to do is visit the Honest Kids page and comment below with which flavor you and your kids would choose if you won.

The fantastic folks at Honest Tea sent me products to try and review, but I was not otherwise compensated and all opinions are 100% my own.

Giveaway will end on Tuesday, November 10. Winner will be chosen at random.

How To Avoid Buying Toilet Paper For A Year #sheethappens #giveaway

This post is sponsored by Angel Soft® , but keep reading because you can enter an awesome giveaway at the bottom!

I haven’t written much about BlogHer, and I already told you that I didn’t take many pictures. What kind of blogger am I, anyway?!

I’m the kind of blogger that sometimes gets overwhelmed by information and experiences, and I have trouble putting into words what I’m feeling when that happens.

Right now, I can say that I really did have a fantastic time, especially connecting with the amazing people I’ve come to know online. I also really did meet some great vendors, too, the ones that were willing to stop and chat with me.

One of those vendors at the expo was Angel Soft® . I shared before about the cute videos that they’ve put out for the #sheethappens campaign. (If you haven’t seen them yet, check them out here)

I feel like this may be me in a few years:

Anyway, Angel Soft®  had a really fun booth in the expo hall at the conference with a photo booth. There’s not much I love more than a photo booth with props and I went with one of my favorite Angelas. We took one of my favorite pictures from the weekend:Angel Soft #sheethappens giveawayI mean, I feel like we’re kind of ridiculously adorable in this picture.

They also had a bathroom set, where you could sit and answer questions for your own #sheethappens video. I cracked myself up talking about my own #sheetoutofluck moments and how I’m the only one that knows how to change a toilet paper roll. (that’s the only explanation for the fact that I’m the only one that changes the roll, right?)

Oh, and by the way, Angela is also giving away a year’s supply of Angel Soft, so you should definitely go enter there, too.

Thankfully, there was plenty of toilet paper at the conference, but once I got back to reality, I stocked up. I definitely didn’t want to depend on my kids to bring me any. Pfffft. I’d have better luck with the puppy.

louise 1

Now to the giveaway. Would you like to win a year’s supply of Angel Soft® bath tissue AND a year’s supply of Angel Soft® facial tissue? Who wouldn’t?! Enter below!

Giveaway will close in one week. Winner will be notified and must reply within 48 hours, or a new winner will be chosen. Good luck!

See Jane Run Wichita Half Marathon #Giveaway

Last year, I ran my very first half marathon. It was relaxed, and laid-back, full of supportive women of all shapes and sizes. And, at the finish line, I was greeted by a medal, chocolates, and a glass of champagne.

It wasn’t easy, by any means. Though the course was flat and half scenic/half residential, I had been sick leading up to the race, and wasn’t sure I’d even be able to finish if I tried. But I had my mom there and my good friend, Liz, and they helped me cross that finish line.

This year, I’m an ambassador for the See Jane Run half marathon in Wichita and pleased to be able to spread the word about this fun, well organized, supportive race and even give away a half marathon registration.

My Holiday Wish List #Giveaway

How’s your Christmas shopping coming? Do you have YOUR wish list? I do. I have one on Amazon, and it includes running shoes (you can never have enough, right?), a whole array of the Just Dance games for Wii, a tablet that is for me and not the kids, and a few other random things.

I’ve got most of gifts ordered, and if I’m missing any, I’ll remember at the last minute. I don’t get out much (at all), so I do almost all of my shopping online. I should probably buy something for the Fedex and UPS folks.

In case you’re not done yet, or have a long wish list that may or may not be fulfilled, Coupons.com has gift guides (plus coupons) for everyone.

I would love to have anything on this Gift Guide for Moms, but you can find all of the gift guides AND a different giveaway here.

But right now, enter to win this giveaway for a $200 AMAZON E-GIFT CARD! Wouldn’t that be the icing on the (fruit)cake to win, right before the holiday?

What’s on YOUR wish list?

The Annual Family Pictures (and a #Giveaway)

I was given a canvas from Signazon to review, but I did not receive compensation and all opinions are 100% my own. I promise you don’t want to miss the giveaway at the bottom, or some family pictures that I think are pretty darn cute.

This year, I didn’t have the time, energy, or mega-bucks to spend on a family photo session. But, I love getting a good shot of our whole family (and at least one of all of the kids together).

So, on a Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago, in a comical display of stubbornness, I set up my camera on a big cardboard box from the garage, and we all stood out in the field behind our house while I ran back and forth to hit the button and get back in place before the time was up. I was “allowed” to take five pictures of all of us, by my husband, who insisted that after five, he’d no longer have a smile for the camera. I took six. I don’t think they’re half bad.

My friend Sarah was kind enough to do some editing on the the family shots to make them look, you know…more professional.

family 1 (1)family 2 (1)kids (2)kiss (1)ervin2ivyessie 2Henry

I’m also maybe turning into crazy picture lady, because our living room walls are basically covered. Most of them are canvases, which I LOVE. This time around I ordered one of my favorites from Signazon for the wall, and I think it looks perfect up there with photos from the last few years. It came packaged really well, shipped fast, and the picture looks amazing on it.

Because I’m in the Christmas spirit, I’m giving away a $50 credit to Signazon.com, so one of you lucky readers can pick out your own canvas, custom sign, business cards, or any of their high-quality custom products.

Giveaway is open to US residents only. Winner will be chosen via random drawing on or after December 12, and will have 48 hours after notification to respond with contact information, or another winner will be chosen. Good luck!

Gluten Free Friday: Making Your Own Squeezer Pouch Snacks #Giveaway

My daughter, the one with Celiac Disease, is a snacking fool. She finishes her lunch every day and immediately asks for a snack. Her favorite thing is yogurt, but she also loves fruit snacks, cheese sticks, snack mix made with Chex cereal, things like that. We go through boxes of yogurt squeezers (that’s what we call them…the long, single-serving tubes of yogurt that come in normal and crazy flavors) in no time, and I find the empty plastic all over the place.

When I was approached about trying the Infantino Fresh-Squeezed system for making your own baby food and putting it into pouches (the ones that everything comes in these days), I knew why I wanted to try it. I had heard of the squeezing/filling station before, but I never wanted to spend money on it because I didn’t think it would be easy to clean and I wasn’t sure it was worth the money. But, I also knew that if I could fill the pouches with yogurt and applesauce, two things that we go through like crazy, and save money and save some plastic waste from going into landfills, AND it was easy to use and clean up, I’d be sold.

We’re past the baby food phase, but we go through disposable pouches ever single day, so I was anxious to try the system. Because not only was I hesitant to spend the money on something I wasn’t sure was worth it, but I also don’t like buying yogurt that tastes like cotton candy or blazing blue RAZberry (you know what I’m talking about).

We also often buy a big tub of yogurt because A) it’s cheaper B) it’s cheaper and C) it’s not blue. But, giving my four- and two-year-olds a bowl of yogurt is a disaster waiting to happen. Heck, giving the two-year-old a yogurt tube is a disaster.

So, when I got the system in the mail, I quickly scanned the directions and got to filling the pouches. It took some trial and error for me to make the least amount of mess possible, but when I was done, I cleaned up and had eight 4 oz pouches of natural vanilla yogurt (one of which was immediately drained by my daughter). She calls them “applesauce yogurt” because they look like yogurt in the applesauce pouches that we buy.

When I was at Aldi (my go-to store for milk, produce, and dairy, at the least), I priced the yogurt…both a 32 oz tub of yogurt and an 8 pack of tubes were $1.99 (both store brand). BUT. The tubes are only 2.25 oz each, so you’re getting half as much yogurt as in the tub.

Plus, there’s a lot less waste. Technically, the box of squeeze pouches says not the reuse them (there is a silicone one that says it’s reusable). I won’t encourage reuse of them, but I am a person that reuses plastic silverware until it breaks (don’t judge…the adults use metal but we do have four kids. Ahem.) and I found the pouches are really easy to clean by soaking them in soapy water and then rinsing them out several times with hot water. In fact, that’s how I clean the whole system after using it, and it’s really easy. (It’s all dishwasher-safe, too, though.)

It can also be used as a rocket, by the way.

It can also be used as a rocket, by the way.

So yes, I’m still figuring out how to not make a mess, but I’m getting better. It IS absolutely worth it to me to save money on snacks my kids LOVE, and be able to easily pack them for lunches and trips or throw them into the refrigerator. AND give them to the kids without worrying about them making a mess. I can handle my messes….theirs are WAY WORSE.

And all I’ve tried so far is a few tubs of yogurt, but you can also fill them with applesauce, yogurt blends, smoothies, pretty much anything you see in ready-to-eat (and pricey) pouches in grocery stores these days (but made by YOU so you know exactly what goes in them).

infantino eb

In conclusion, there is a little bit of a learning curve with the system, but I’ll continue to happily use it and I’m really glad I got the chance to try it. AND, I’m giving the whole system to one of you lucky readers!

One reader will receive the system, valued at around $70 and including the following:

  • Squeeze Station – 3 Pouch Press unit with (10) starter Squeeze Pouchesinfantino system
  • 50-pack Squeeze Pouches – Plenty of pouches for those lunchboxes
  • Keeper Squeeze Pouch – Offers an additional way to fill-and-go in an easy-to-clean, soft silicone container
  • Peppy Puree – Quickly blends soft fruits and steamed veggiesinfantino system 2
  • Couple a Spoons™ – Spoons that attach easily to Squeeze Pouches for mess-free feeding – $3.99

There are also other accessories available to make it even easier to make your own baby food and snack pouches, like a masher, funnel, stay-cool bag, and freezer sleeve for organizing the pouches in the freezer.

To enter, use the rafflecoptor below. Giveaway will end at 9 PM Central, Sunday, October 13th. Winner will have 48 hours to respond with their information, or a new winner will be chosen. Good luck!

Gluten Free Friday: Sweet Potato Beef Hash

With the new school year started, and evenings becoming more hectic with homework and baths and getting the kids to bed really early, I’ve been looking for new dinner ideas that are healthy and easy and not one of the five dinners that I’ve been rotating for the last six months.

We eat lean beef quite a bit (tacos and bunless hamburgers being two of those above-mentioned five dinners), so when I saw this recipe for Sweet Potato Beef Hash, I thought it would be easy and kid-friendly, and it turned out to be both. It’s also chock-full of protein, fiber, good carbs, iron, vitamins B6 and B12, and other good-for-you stuff.

The original recipe called for just sweet potatoes, but since at least one of my children will not eat sweet potatoes, I added a few baby gold potatoes as well. You can wrap the hash up in a whole wheat tortilla, or even a gluten free one, but I served it with baked tortilla chips.
