I was a scrooge yesterday about Thanksgiving,  I know. But like I said, I do have a lot to be thankful for (and I know it). The things I’m thankful for now, though, are much different than the things I was thankful for growing up.

Then: Baking pumpkin pies with my grandma for the big Thanksgiving gathering, even when we forgot the sugar and had to start all over.
Now: The Pinterest app on my phone and the ability to find a potato side dish recipe for the Thanksgiving meal I’m hosting . . . the next morning.

Then: Big breaks in my college days were awesome for taking the best naps between classes.
Now: Thirty minutes to myself on the weekends are great, after I sneak upstairs to read and get away from the noise and before the four noisemakers realize I’m gone and come find me.

Then: Watching the Sex and the City episodes that my dad recorded for me with the VCR when I’m home from college on the weekend.
Now: Catching up on backlogged DVRed series after Team Umizoomi’s biggest fan has gone to bed.

Then: The nervousness I felt before a play performance or choir concert, slightly relieved by the fact that my parents were in the audience to cheer me on.
Now: The nervousness I feel before a program that my kids will be in and the anticipation of seeing their adorable performances.

Then: A Saturday night spent at the diner with my friends.
Now: A Saturday night spent playing dress-up.

Then: Snow days! No school and hours to play in the white stuff.
Now: Snow days! No loading up the car with kids after trudging through a foot of the white stuff.
