While Friday morning was a bit of a disaster, with costume elements missing all over the place and everyone getting to school late, we made it and it turned out to be a pretty awesome day.

I actually loved the kids’ costume choices this year. It would’ve been awesome for them to agree to wear the ones I bought them last year, in the after-Halloween sale, but whatever.

Henry’s first choice was “zombie hunter.” I said no. His second choice was “T-Bird.” I have NO idea where the idea came from, as he’s never seen the movie, but I didn’t care. I looked for costumes, and the pre-made ones were all cheapo fabric jackets and that’s about it. So I went to eBay and bought him a real leather jacket (not at all expensive) and some black Converse. I think he looked super cute.

Ivy’s first choice was Elsa. I asked her if she maybe wanted to be something that not everyone else was going to be, and she said Poison Ivy. I did another search….there ARE no Poison Ivy costumes for kids, really (hello, not the cool costume), so I started looking for green leggings and a shirt or dress to make one. Not easy to find. So we started looking at other costumes online and she saw this one:

I thought we could pretty easily recreate that, and I think we did a pretty good job. We’ll start earlier next year and she can be Poison Ivy.

Essie’s was the easiest, because she wanted to be a cat. And Ervin agreed to let me transform the sea turtle into a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. It gave me a headache and a little high blood pressure, and it didn’t really look like those cool costumes you can buy in the store, but our three year old was super happy with it…he was singing in the streets (literally) while we trick-or-treated.

So, tell me…what did your kids dress up as?
