Through The Lens Thursday is a weekly exercise in our quest to improve our photography skills, based on a prompt we choose.

We’ve had Skeeter for about a year and a half, I think, and he and Essie have a special relationship. She loves him, and he loves her elephant blanket. As soon as she sits down with it, he climbs on her lap, licks the fur on the blanket for a while, and then goes to sleep. Every single day.

For the prompt “soft”, I immediately thought of the cats, and during Christmas break, the girls sat down together and he laid down on them. As long as he has that fur, he really doesn’t care too much what they do to him. So that day, he was accessorized, and then later, he was the model for some of Ivy’s pictures with the camera she got for Christmas.

I chose this picture because Skeeter and his soft coat are the focal point, and I tried to bring out the different textures. The girls are facing the big picture window, so the light is hitting them just right.

Because this is a self-improvement photography project, I welcome any and all constructive criticism! And feel free to join in…next week’s prompt is “corner.”
